Community. Who are we without it? It is such a significant part of who we each are, and it is up to us to remind ourselves what’s important. Within the Colorado and Wyoming area, Food Bank of the Rockies helps fill the pantries of those who may need a little extra help.
Food Bank of the Rockies strives to use the power of the community to help provide for the people who face hunger. Being the largest food bank coverage area in the United States means they have many people partnering with them and volunteering. They have over 800 partners and distribute enough food for at least 185,000 meals every day. 1 in 9 Colorodans will experience food insecurity. This also includes only select people in the family being able to eat. Parents often give their kids food but don’t have anything left to feed themselves. Multiple initiatives are in place to help. Trying to get nutritious food to people is something they have tried to prioritize along with making sure the elderly are fed.
The Avalanche have given multiple donations and done canned food drives for the food bank in the past. Most recently, they donated $10,000 on January 17th in honor of Ball Arena’s 25th Anniversary celebration. Joe Sacik who is the general manager of the team and a former player has held charity golf tournaments benefiting the food pantry as well. Multiple games have encouraged fans to bring canned goods to donate.
