From Ice to Insight: A breakdown of hockey infographics

Word, words, and more words. Reading an entire article is not always the most exciting thing to do, but add in some pictures and graphics? Now that is fun and visually appealing. Not only are they about a page in length, but they are easy to follow and still provide great information. In the NHL, a common infographic can be about one of the players. Below, you will see one for Gabriel Landeskog, the captain of the Colorado Avalanche. While it may be slightly outdated, it still provides key information about him as a player. It gives you quick information that is easily scannable and easy to read. Because it is divided into sections, it is able to draw your eye to the most important information. You can see what their stats are and some of their achievements. I like to know that I am rooting for a team that has amazing players.

Honestly, I am someone who can’t focus on long articles and doesn’t have a ton of patience to read them either. For people like me, this is a great way to get information and still be able to learn. If you are just starting to watch the Avs play, they have infographics for many of the players. You can learn about them and maybe even choose your favorite player. I think infographics are a great learning tool for children as well. For some of those younger fans, less words and more pictures would be easier to digest and understand. All fans may be rooting for their team to win, but having background is something that I feel is also important. If you want kids to know more, infographics are a great way.

The second infographic is also outdated, however, it is still a great example of something that is easy to read. The different colors can grab your attention for the different information being provided. It also flows nicely by having the three different columns represent the different ways that people view the game. Overall, infographics can be an asset to any sports team, not just the Avalanche. Having engaging, picture-forward pages to help people understand and help engage people can be extremely helpful.
